Random Thoughts One April Fools’ Day

Wrote this in April 2018. One summer ago.

A former colleague posted, “Be careful, butterflies can be wasps. When your stomach flutters, your handshakes, and your cheeks flush, sometimes it’s not love. It’s pain.”

It made me think of my feelings. Could it be true? Could it be that what I’m feeling is just a prelude to something that will hurt me in the end? Pain is somehow linked to love. One could never be hurt or be in pain if one is not in love. One can only be affected by such gravity if and when you also have deep feelings toward the other.

On another note, to be in love is learning to take risks. There is no formula for love, in good relationships. One does not plan for it. You can not do a five-year or ten-year plan on where one’s relationship would lead. You can not lead love. What one can do is guide the relationship and go with the flow. This is where risks come in. When you do not have expectations of where it would lead, you are taking a risk. The risk factor is what makes one’s relationship one heaven of a ride.

In the end, I’d rather be stung by a wasp than forever be wondering, and be denied of this lovely feeling of romantic excitement. Butterflies, you have my permission to stay.
